Assisting in Starting Up Career Academies
PROGRAM:
The SUCCEED Florida – Career Paths Program is designed to aid
in providing startup grants to offset planning and implementation costs of
partnerships between a district school board of the Florida Virtual School and
one or more businesses, industries, or postsecondary educational institutions
to operate a career and professional academy.
DEADLINE:
July 12, 2005.

Up to $200,000 per career academy.
ELIGIBILITY:
Secondary and postsecondary career education programs
offered by public schools, school district operated career centers, or the
Florida Virtual School.

SUCCEED Florida – Nursing Education Grant Program /
Florida Department of Education (FDOE)
Increasing Nursing Programs in Florida
PROGRAM:
The SUCCEED Florida – Nursing Education Grant Program is
designed to increase the capacity of nursing programs at public and private
postsecondary educational institutions and to encourage more nurses to
enter the workforce in Florida.
DEADLINE:
July 8, 2005.
FUNDING:
Up to $500,000 for an individual postsecondary educational
institution. Up to $1,500,000 for a joint proposal from two or more public or
private postsecondary educational institutions.
ELIGIBILITY:
Nursing programs fully approved by the Board of Nursing at
public and private postsecondary educational institutions. Provisionally
approved programs may collaborate with an eligible applicant.

SUCCEED Florida – Teacher Certification / Florida
Department of Education (FDOE)
Increasing Teacher Certification/Preparation Programs in Florida
PROGRAM:
The SUCCEED Florida – Teacher Certification initiative is
designed to increase the capacity of teacher certification/preparation
programs at public and private postsecondary educational institutions and to
encourage more teachers to enter the workforce in Florida.
DEADLINE:
July 8, 2005.

FUNDING:
30 to 45 awards ranging from $100,000 to $300,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
All accredited or approved public and private postsecondary
educational institutions in Florida with approved teacher preparation
programs or approved/provisionally-approved educator preparation
institutes.

Family Violence Prevention and Services Program / Health
and Human Services (HHS) Department
Preventing Family Violence
PROGRAM:
The Family Violence Prevention and Services Program by the
Health and Human Services (HHS) Department funds projects which involve
researchers, activists, survivors of domestic violence and practitioners who
have been advocates working towards elimination of domestic violence.
Their expertise and training will be beneficial in the domestic violence
community.
DEADLINE:
July 5, 2005.
FUNDING:
$1.6 million for up to four three-year awards.
ELIGIBILITY:
Public and private institutions of higher education, nonprofit
501(c)3 organizations including faith-based community organizations,
domestic violence advocacy groups, and public or private disability
organizations.

The Comprehensive Centers Program – Center for
Innovation and Improvement / U.S. Department of

Providing Technical Assistance in Education

PROGRAM:
The Comprehensive Centers Program supports the
establishment of more than 20 comprehensive technical assistance centers
that provide technical assistance to States as they work to help districts and
schools close achievement gaps in core content areas and raise student
achievement in schools.
DEADLINE:
Notice of Intent to Apply, June 23, 2005. Deadline for
Transmittal of Applications, July 18, 2005.
FUNDING:
21 awards ranging from $750,000 to $4,600,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
Research organizations, institutions, agencies, institutions of
higher education, or partnerships among such entities, or individuals, with
the demonstrated ability or capacity to carry out the activities described in
the request for proposal. An application from a consortium of eligible
entities must include a consortium agreement.

Shifting Gears / VSA (Very Special Artists) Arts and
Volkswagon of America
Providing Young Artists with Special Needs an Opportunity to Shine
PROGRAM:
The VSA (Very Special Artists) Arts & Volkswagon of America
Inc. are asking for entries to an art contest for promising young artists with
disabilities. The “Shifting Gears” project is an opportunity for artists to
reflect on a life-changing moment that helped them understand themselves
in relation to their art or their disability.
DEADLINE:
July 15, 2005.
FUNDING:
$20,000 grand prize, $10,000 first award, $6,000 second award,
and 12 awards of $2,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
Young U.S. artists, age 15 to 25, who have a physical,
cognitive, or mental disability.
