Promoting Drug Free Environments
PROGRAM:
The School-Based Student Drug-Testing programs, offered by
the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools in the U.S. Department of
Education (USDE) is designed to help organizations develop and implement,
or expand, school-based drug-testing programs for students, student
athletes, and students engaged in competitive extracurricular activities.

DEADLINE:
August 16, 2005.
FUNDING:
32 awards ranging from $100,000 to $300,000.

Local educational agencies (LEAs), public and private
entities.

Best Buy Te@ch Grants / Best Buy Children’s Foundation
Integrating Technology Into Curriculum
PROGRAM:
The Best Buy Children’s Foundation makes the Best Buy Te@ch
grants available to reward schools that use interactive technology to make
learning fun for students. Best Buy will recognize programs that have been
operating in schools for at least one full school year and that use interactive
technology to genuinely engage students in the learning process.
DEADLINE:
December 31, 2005.
FUNDING:
1200 awards of up to $2,500 each.
ELIGIBILITY:
Accredited K-12 schools located within 25 miles of a Best Buy

Do Something BRICK Awards
Making a Difference in the Community
PROGRAM:
Do Something is an organization that strives to foster a
nationwide network of youths who take action to change the world around
them. The Do Something BRICK Awards program is designed to honor
young leaders who identified a community problem and worked to positively
change the problem while working in the areas of community building,
health and the environment.
DEADLINE:
November 1, 2005.
FUNDING:
Six awards of a $5,000 scholarship and a $5,000 grant for
continued community work will be made to leaders age 18 or younger.
Three winners aged 19 to 25 will each receive a $10,000 grant. All winners
will receive pro bono services and attend a gala event in New York City.
ELIGIBILITY:
U.S. Individuals age 18 and under who have undertaken a
project that has measurably bettered their community.

Improving Technological Accessibility
PROGRAM:
The InfoSource Integrating Technology in the Classroom Grant
Program is designed to provide school districts with the InfoSource Learn It

suite of online tools and technology training. The

program will give districts the
opportunity to improve digital literacy skills for teachers, students and
parents. Teachers and students will be able to access internet skills training,
testing, assignments, grade books, reporting, chat rooms, discussion boards,
file sharing, a lesson plan builder, and a lesson plan library online, while
parents can view their children's progress, grades, and activities.
DEADLINE:
December 31, 2005.
FUNDING:
Varies. Awardees will receive a one year license for student and
faculty use in their school district

National Geographic Teacher Grants
Exploring New Areas
PROGRAM:
The National Geographic Teacher Grants program is for
educators who will involve students in the research and study of geography.
Geography or “describing the Earth”, involves learning about people and
places, understanding human-environment interaction, and exploring
connections as well as applying a set of interdisciplinary skills. Today, the
National Geographic Society places a special emphasis on advancing the
knowledge and appreciation of cultures and on the interrelationship between
human aspirations and our planet’s natural and cultural resources
.
DEADLINE:
September 2, 2005.

Grants up to $5,000 each for up to a total of $100,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
K-12 teachers and administrators.

Florida Service-Learning and Home Safety Initiative/
State Farm Insurance
Helping Communities in Need
PROGRAM:
The Florida Alliance for Student Service and the Florida
Education Foundation, in partnership with State Farm Insurance will support
students interested in raising awareness about the importance of building
codes and disaster preparation, mitigation, response and recovery.
Students who are knowledgeable regarding these issues can educate their
peers, parents, and the public. This innovative partnership was formed due
to Florida being struck by four hurricanes in 2004.
DEADLINE:
September 22, 2005.
FUNDING:
$110,000 for 20 to 30 grants of a maximum of $7,500 each.
Most grants will be in the $3,000 to $5,000 range.
ELIGIBILITY:
In-school, after-school and summer programs at public and
charter K-12 schools and institutions of higher education.
