Agriculture Education Challenge / U.S. Department of
Agriculture (USDA)
Promoting Agricultural Science
PROGRAM
: The USDA has two Education Challenge Grant Programs. The
Secondary and Two-Year Postsecondary Agriculture Education Challenge
Grants (SPEC) program seeks to promote education in agriscience and
agribusiness. This program will help ensure the existence of a qualified
workforce to serve the food and agricultural sciences system; and to
promote links in the food and agricultural sciences while encouraging more
young Americans to pursue a degree in the food and agricultural sciences.
DEADLINE:
January 13, 2005.
FUNDING:
Awards range from $35,000 to $50,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
Public secondary schools or public or private nonprofit
community colleges.

NATIONAL STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION for
SUSTAINABILITY FOCUSING on PEOPLE, PROSPERITY, and
the PLANET / U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Protecting Our Environment
PROGRAM:
The Environmental Protection Agency’s 2
nd Annual P3 National
Student Design Competition for Sustainability Focusing on People,
Prosperity, and the Planet Award is designed to provide support for activities
that involve geospatial information. The competition will provide grants to
teams of college students to research, develop, and design solutions to the
challenges of sustainability while achieving the mutual goals of economic
prosperity, protection of the natural systems of the planet, and providing a
higher quality of life for its people.
DEADLINE:
January 27, 2005.
FUNDING:
Awards up to $10,000.

Public and state controlled institutions of higher education,
501(c)3 nonprofit organizations.

7-Eleven: Slurpees, Big Gulps, and Grants
Supporting Disadvantaged Individuals
PROGRAM
: 7-Eleven concentrates available resources on three specific
areas of interest. These are: 1) multicultural understanding, 2) crime
prevention, and 3) hunger and education. The program is designed to assist
adolescents and adults (ages 14 and above) to participate in the workforce
and encourage personal empowerment, betterment and self-sufficiency.

7-Eleven is especially interested in programs that assist at-risk and
economically disadvantaged individuals.

Captain Planet Foundation
Helping Children with Environmental Projects
PROGRAM:
The mission of the Captain Planet Foundation is to fund and
support hands-on environmental projects for children and youths. Their
objective is to encourage innovative programs that empower children and
youth around the world to work individually and collectively to solve
environmental problems in their neighborhoods and communities. Through
environmental education, they believe that children can achieve a better
understanding and appreciation for the world in which they live.
DEADLINE:
December 31, 2004.
FUNDING:
Awards Range from $250 - $2,500.
ELIGIBILITY:
501(c)3 non-profit organizations.

Inspiration Software
Integrating Visual Learning
PROGRAM
: Inspiration Software is pleased to offer the seventh annual
Inspired Teacher Scholarship for Visual Learning Program. Inspiration

Software is committed to helping educators use graphic organizers and other
visual learning tools to help students develop strong thinking and
organizational skills and improve their academic performance. For 2005,
there are two types of scholarships being offered. The first of the two is the
Inspired Teacher Scholarships for Visual Learning (ITSVL), focusing on
educators who demonstrate an understanding of visual learning and a
commitment to the integration of visual learning techniques into the
curriculum. The second is the Inspired Teacher Scholarship Rookie Awards
for Visual Learning. This award focuses on candidates who are new to the
area of visual learning and demonstrate a desire and capacity to learn and
apply visual learning principles in the classroom.
DEADLINE:
January 27, 2005.
FUNDING:
$750 scholarships.
ELIGIBILITY:
Educators in K-12 schools, colleges, and universities with at
least one year of service.

International Cultural Exchange
Providing International Opportunities
PROGRAM:
The International Cultural Exchange Grant program is designed
to support international cultural exchange projects of outstanding artistic
and cultural merit. The program supports projects that may include
exhibits, touring, performances, publishing and printing of brochures and
catalogs, lectures, or symposia, cultural heritage and documentation, and
artist residencies.
Projects may be developed and originate in Florida for travel outside of the
United States, or may be developed or originate in another country and be
brought to the state by a Florida sponsor.
DEADLINE:
January 5, 2005.
FUNDING:
Awards up to $25,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
Public entity governed by a county, municipality, school
district, community college, college, university, or an agency of state

government; or 501(c)3 non-profit organizations which may include arts
organizations, including museums, theatres, dance companies, sister city
organizations, art centers and others.
