Providing Technical Assistance and Information
PROGRAM
: The Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative
Services is inviting applications under the Special Education--Technical
Assistance and Dissemination to Improve Services and Results for Children
with Disabilities Program. The purpose of this program is to support state
and local entities in building capacity to improve early intervention,
educational and transitional services.
DEADLINE
: August 29, 2003.
FUNDING
: Total available $1.6 million.

: Local-, state-education and other public agencies; non-profit
and for-profit organizations.

Florida Division of Cultural Affairs
Promoting Introductory Projects in the Arts
PROGRAM:
The Division’s Quarterly Assistance Grant provides funding
assistance for new arts organizations or arts organizations with no prior
Division grant funding. Some of the funding is awarded to promote
professional development. If schools have no formal affiliation with
nonprofits incorporated as arts organizations, they still can apply in a
separate category for special project grants.
DEADLINE:
October 10, 2003
FUNDING:
Up to $1,500
ELIGIBILITY:
Arts organizations for most grants, however, non-arts
organizations, including public schools, are eligible in the special project
category.

Florida Division of Cultural Affairs
Supporting Diversity in Art and Culture
PROGRAM
: The mission of the Division’s Cultural Support Grants Program is
to promote diversity in art and culture for all the people in the State of
Florida. The Division encourages a dedication to outreach and educational
services to under-served areas and populations, and increased access for
persons with disabilities. Two types of funding are offered: General Program
Support and Specific Projects. For more information, visit the website.

: Ranges from $1,500 to $350,000.

Encouraging Education, Sports and Exercise
PROGRAM
: The Finish Line Youth Foundation provides funding for programs
that support education, sports and exercise. These wellness programs place
importance on living a healthy lifestyle, giving children confidence,
leadership and teamwork skills

Sun Microsystems Academic Equipment Grant Program
Donating Equipment to K-university Education
PROGRAM
: Sun Microsystems provides donations of hardware systems to
K-university institutions. Grants are provided in two focus areas: primary
and secondary education; and university outreach to K-12. Priority will go to
programs that use the “Sun Rays in Classroom programs”, support
institution-sponsored portals, use development hardware and software, or
support servers other than Sun hardware, such as wireless. For specific

Darden Restaurants Foundation
Giving in Central Florida
PROGRAM:
The Darden Restaurant Foundation provides grants for
education, social services/nutrition, and the environment. The restaurant
chain includes Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze and Smokey
Bones BBQ, and is headquartered in Orlando. Grants are concentrated in,
but not restricted to, the central Florida area. Many of the education grants
support hospitality programs or scholarships for minority or
business/hospitality students. Social services grants include operating
support.

: Ranges mostly from $5,000 to $50,000
ELIGIBILITY
: Nonprofit [501©3] and publicly-supported organizations

Major League Baseball
Providing “Baseball Tomorrow” Grants
PROGRAM
: Major League Baseball provides Baseball Tomorrow grants to
increase the number of youth from ages 10 to 16 participating in baseball
and softball programs. Eligible recipients are non-profit, tax-exempt
organizations involved in youth baseball and softball. Projects should
significantly expand baseball or softball programs in a measurable way and
be achievable within a specific time frame.
