Establishing Centers for Safety and Health
PROGRAM:
The Department of Health and Human Services, in conjunction
with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National
Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, announced a funding
opportunity to establish new Education and Research Centers (ERC) focusing
on occupational safety and health. ERC’s provide interdisciplinary graduate
training and continuing education in the areas of: industrial hygiene,
occupational nursing health, occupational medical residency, and
occupational safety.
DEADLINE:
September 16, 2005.

FUNDING:
Twelve to twenty awards, totaling up to $20 million.
ELIGIBILITY:
Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations, for-profit organizations,
public and private institutions (universities, colleges, hospitals, and
laboratories); domestic institutions and organizations; and individuals in
conjunction with their institution.

Librarians for the 21
st Century Program / The Institute of
Museum and Library Services (IMLS)
Assisting the Next Generation of Librarians
PROGRAM:
The Librarians for the 21
st Century program, by the Institute of
Museum and Library Services (IMLS), is designed to help recruit and educate
the next generation of librarians and assist new librarians’ beginning careers
in library science.
DEADLINE:
December 15, 2005.
FUNDING:
$50,000 to $1 million.
ELIGIBILITY:
Public, school, academic, special, and private nonprofit
libraries, except ones that are federal or for-profit; library agencies; library
consortia; library associations; research libraries; institutions of higher
education; and graduate schools or library and information science.

PROGRAM:
The Teaching and Learning Resources and Curriculum
Development program of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH),
is seeking projects that will help schools, colleges, and universities to create
and utilize humanities programs, courses, and resources for teaching and
learning; and create and use technology that will integrate humanities
scholarships into teaching and learning at all levels of education.
DEADLINE:
October 1, 2005.
FUNDING:
Curriculum: Up to $100,000. Materials: Up to $200,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
Nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations dedicated to improving
humanities education.

Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation
Providing Musical Instruments to Schools In Need
PROGRAM:
Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation Melody Program is designed to
provide musical instruments and instrument repairs to existing K-12 school
music programs that have no other source of financing.

FUNDING:
Grants of instruments and instrument repairs range between
$500 and $5,000. Awarded instruments may be both new and refurbished.
ELIGIBILITY:
Schools with an ongoing music program that is at least 3
years old.

Vernier Technology Awards
Promoting Technology
PROGRAM:
The Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards is designed to promote
the innovative use of data-collection technology using a computer, graphing
calculator, or other handheld instrument in the science classroom.

FUNDING:
$1,000 in cash for the teacher, $1,000 in Vernier Products, and
up to $1,000 toward expenses to attend the NSTA National Convention, April
6 – 9, 2006 in Anaheim, CA.
ELIGIBILITY:
K-College science teachers.
